Texans Reveal Draft Plans in Interviews: QB at Pick No. 2 - Report

The Houston Texans reportedly told coaching candidates that the team plans to use their No. 2 overall pick on a quarterback this year.

HOUSTON — Soon-to-be third-year quarterback Davis Mills believes he has done enough to retain his starting job for another season. But the Houston Texans may have a different opinion.

The Texans, over the course of their interview process with potential head coaches - a search that of course eventually landed them on DeMeco Ryans - according to ESPN informed the interviewees of their top plan in the upcoming draft ...

And said they plan on using the No. 2 overall pick on a quarterback.

If the Texans stick to that plan, the 2023 NFL Draft will likely mean either C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young land in Houston. The Chicago Bears hold the first overall pick but could trade down with a quarterback-needy team.

Stroud may not possess the arm strength that makes Young the top-rated prospect to some, but the talent gap between the two is not wide.

The Texans - who also hold the No. 12 overall pick - interviewed eight candidates before choosing Ryans as their sixth head coach in franchise history. And what they told him, and the others? If true, it offers clarity to Houston's map to the future.
