Where's Texans Laremy Tunsil Rank In Top-10 Ranking?

Offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil had a career year in 2022 for the Houston Texans. But was Tunsil's production good enough to be named the best offensive tackle in the league?

HOUSTON — Houston Texans Laremy Tunsil and San Francisco 49ers Trent Williams are the two best offensive tackles in the league, and their talents have sparked a debate about which lineman is the best.

In a survey conducted by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, league coaches, executives and scouts have ranked the top 10 players at each position heading into training camp. The survey also allowed current players to take part in the voting.

The balloters named Williams the best offensive tackle following his second consecutive All-Pro season in 2022. Tunsil finished second after coming off his third-career Pro Bowl selection.

Fowler noted that Tunsil did receive some first-place votes. But Williams was voted No. 1 on 80 percent of the ballots.

"He's an incredibly gifted player," an NFL executive said of Williams. "He has lapses and relies on that talent too much at times. There is some wavering physicality with him. But when he turns it on, nearly impossible to stop."

Tunsil had a career year despite the Texans going 3-13-1 in 2022. He finished his fourth season in Houston with 676 pass-blocking snaps, 17 pressures, and one sack. Tunsil earned his highest career pass blocking grade of 91.7, according to Pro Football Focus.

His contributions led to a three-year contract extension worth up to $75 million in March. Tunsil's deal also included $60 million in total guarantees, which made him the highest-paid offensive tackle in league history.

"Pro Bowl, All Pro, whatever those accolades have been, he's been one of the top left tackles in the league," coach DeMeco Ryans said. "How can you gain some type of knowledge from a guy as a young player?

"I'm expecting our young guys to be sponges, hoping Laremy shares as much as possible to train the next guys who are coming after him to give them all the tips and tricks of the trade."
