Injury Update: Will Texans OT Kenyon Green Be Ready for Training Camp?

Houston Texans' second-year offensive guard Kenyon Green may not be ready for training camp following off-season knee surgery.

HOUSTON — The Houston Texans had great attendance during mandatory minicamp, but a few familiar players were not practicing at the Houston Methodist Training Center. And second-year offensive guard Kenyon Green accounted for one of the absences.

Green underwent a procedure on his knee in March and is still making a recovery. The offseason procedure marked the second knee operation in Green's career. Despite having another month before training camp begins, there is a sense of uncertainty about Green's status in July.

"We’ll see where Kenyon is come training camp," coach DeMeco Ryans said. "For Kenyon, he has to be ready to go and the work he puts in over the next few weeks will see if he’s ready and ready to go out and compete."

The rookie offensive lineman from Texas A&M had a rocky first season. And by missing nearly all of the Texans' off-season workout programs, Green is losing important reps that could help in 2023.

Green sustained a concussion during the second week of training camp last season, and his absence made it challenging to get adjusted to the NFL.

After missing nearly all of camp, Green played 15 games for the 3-13-1 Texans. In 832 snaps, Green finished the 2022 season with an overall grade of 37.7. He allowed 47 pressures and four sacks while receiving 12 penalties, according to Pro Football Focus.

John Metchie III, Dameon Pierce, and Jimmie Ward were not in attendance with Green.

Pierce was out due to an illness, while personal reasons held Ward out due to mandatory camp. Metchie sustained a hamstring injury at the start of Houston's offseason program and is on track to participate in training camp.
