Texans Mock Draft: Houston Pairs QB Bryce Young with Elite WR

The "cooking" for Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio is projected to continue in a recent mock draft.

The Houston Texans and general manager Nick Caserio are "cooking" this offseason, at least according to newly-extended offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil.

“He’s really cooking," Tusil said Wednesday. "He’s got some great players coming into the locker room to also contribute to the team and help them win.”

And in a recent mock draft from NFL.com's Charles Davis, the "cooking" is projected to continue for the Texans, as the site has them making some splash selections in the first round.

No. 2 - Bryce Young, QB, Alabama

The Texans don't hesitate here after C.J. Stroud goes off the board to the Indianapolis Colts at No. 1, as Houston selects its franchise cornerstone. Mock draft or not, this is certainly something that could come to fruition on draft night.

Here's what Davis had to say about the pick:

Young is my top-ranked quarterback in this year’s draft. Houston turns the card in the moment NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell finishes announcing the first overall pick.

No. 12 - Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State

After selecting Young, it only makes sense to snag a receiver that could hold instant WR1 value for an offense that totaled the eighth-fewest passing yards per game (196.7) this past season. The Texans traded Brandin Cooks to the Dallas Cowboys, potentially opening up the door for Smith-Njigba to have a highly-productive rookie season.

Here's what Davis had to say about the pick:

Smith-Njigba is a smooth, sharp and decisive route runner with easy hands. He is the first wide receiver off the board and will team well with the Texans’ new QB from Alabama.

After making a number of key signings already this offseason to address the offense, it'll be hard for Texans fans to complain if this ends up being the first-round draft haul.
