NFL Mock Draft: Texans Trade Up, Select QB, WR Duo of Future

The Houston Texans might be on the lookout for a new quarterback and wide receiver in this draft. Could they find both in the first round?

For the Houston Texans, the next biggest decision they make could be the most important.

Sitting at No. 2 in the first round of the NFL Draft the Texans don't have a guaranteed path to get the top player on their board while the Chicago Bears sit in front of them.

This creates a dilemma of sorts because while the Bears don't necessarily have the same urgent need at quarterback as Houston does, there are several other teams likely to try and purchase that top pick.

And that would leave the Texans in a position of potentially taking their second-favorite player, and not getting the quarterback they truly believe is the right guy for them.

This is why Pro Football Focus opted for the trade-up itself when projecting Houston's first pick of the NFL Draft.

While PFF recognizes the team will need some creative coordinating after selecting Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young with the first pick in the draft, the site sees too many positives to do anything but this.

"It's just the speed with which he sees stuff," says PFF. "No matter what it is, whether it's pressure, whether it's guys coming open, whether it's on the move, juking defenders - he is just a different level."

The downside to trading up even one spot is the price the Texans will have to pay.

And that price will be inflated because everyone knows the move is to grab the best quarterback on their board.

Fortunately, Houston didn't give up their second first-round pick in this year's draft in the move and still get to come back and take TCU receiver Quentin Johnston later in the first round.

"It's all there," PFF says. "Johnston has every coachable physical tool."

It's a familiar pairing for the Texans in mock draft season, but for good reason.

This duo alone could launch the franchise onto a path toward playoff contention, and that's after just one day of picks.
