Houston Ex DeAndre Hopkins Trade Back To Texans?

Houston Texans ex-WR DeAndre Hopkins hangs out in Dallas as Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer suggests it might only take a second or third-round pick for the Cowboys or any other team to trade for the Cardinals wide receiver. Why not the Texans?

It's been widely speculated that wideout DeAndre Hopkins might be on his way out of Arizona via trade, and over the weekend, he was hanging out with his friend, Cowboys ex Dez Bryant.

"Grind mode in full effect,'' Bryant said in a social media post that suggested the pair of receiving greats were at Lewisville High School, just north of Dallas, for a kids camp and a gym session.

Bryant no longer has any official ties to the Dallas Cowboys organization, but Hopkins' close association with the former Cowboys wideout could indicate a possible trade to Dallas ... or elsewhere.

The Texans have been public about wanting to add a playmaking wide receiver to the arsenal of whoever will be under center next season, whether it's a rookie acquired in next month's NFL Draft or a veteran signed after.

As far as trade value is concerned, the Cardinals aren't necessarily in a salary dump mode like the Rams find themselves in, and Arizona would most likely have to eat some of Hopkins' dead money in a trade.

Hopkins’ cap hits would be $19.5 million in 2023 and $14.9 million in 2024.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, it might only take a second or third-round pick to land the Cardinals wide receiver this offseason. That's all the more reason for the Texans to make a call.

“I think it’s going to be hard for (Cardinals GM Monti) Ossenfort to get great value for Hopkins, maybe even to the point where keeping him is a better idea than dealing him. As it stands right now, if I had to ballpark it, I’d say a Day 2 pick would be what Arizona would get in return in a trade,” Breer wrote.

Injuries and recent suspension aside, Hopkins could still help a young club, as well as mentor young receivers.

Is the risk worth the reward? That's up to Texans general manager Nick Caserio & Co. to decide.
