Texans Sign 12 Players To Reserve/Future Contracts

The Houston Texans have signed 12 players to reserve/future contracts following the end of the regular season.

The Houston Texans signed 12 players to reserve/future contracts on Monday following their 34-10 divisional-round loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The players signed won’t count against the current 53-man roster but will count against the 90-man roster once the new league year arrives in March. Eight players were signed to the offensive side while four were signed on defense.

These deals also won't count against the salary cap headed into the new calendar season. Houston is projected to enter the offseason with just over $71.5 million in cap space, according to Over the Cap, which ranks third among franchises.

Offensively, the Texans agreed to terms with receiver Alex Bachman, receiver Jared Wayne, receiver Johnny Johnson III, quarterback Tim Boyle, running back Gerrid Doaks, tight end Dalton Keene, running back J.J. Taylor, and tackle Jaylon Thomas. Johnson was elevated to the active roster twice during the season and was credited with playing four snaps on special teams in the Week 18 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Defensively, Houston inked deals with tackle McTelvin Agim, edge rusher Ali Gaye, safety Brandon Hill and cornerback Troy Pride. Hill, Houston's last pick in the 2023 draft, missed all of training camp with an injury was was later relegated to the practice squad.

General manager Nick Caserio will be busy in the coming weeks determining which impending free agents could return on a new deal and build off an 11-8 record. Houston is set to lose over a dozen free agents, including several fixtures who paved the way in helping the franchise secure its first division title in four seasons.

The top free agents for Houston include defensive end Jonathan Greenard, tight end Dalton Schultz, running back Devin Singletary, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, cornerback Steven Nelson, linebacker Blake Cashman, receiver Noah Brown, offensive tackle George Fant, offensive lineman Michael Deiter, defensive end Jerry Hughes, linebacker Denzel Perryman, punter Cameron Johnston, kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn, and long snapper John Weeks, among others.

The NFL free agency period begins on March 13.
