Bengals to Trade RB Joe Mixon to Texans Instead of Releasing Him, per Report

It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for Joe Mixon.

It was reported Monday night that the Cincinnati Bengals were poised to cut the veteran running back. Now, Mixon reportedly will exit the Queen City in a different fashion.

The Bengals are trading Mixon to the Houston Texans, according to a Tuesday morning report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Mixon, 27, rushed for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns this past season. The Bengals’ compensation from Houston in return for Mixon hasn’t yet been reported.

In seven years with Cincinnati, Mixon rushed for 6,412 yards and 49 touchdowns—the third- and second-highest totals in franchise history, respectively.

He made his only appearance in the Pro Bowl in 2021—the year he helped the Bengals win their third AFC title.

Joe Mixon reportedly is headed to the Houston Texans after spending his first seven pro seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Texans are poised to add Mixon to an offense anchored by quarterback C.J. Stroud, who was named the AP’s Offensive Rookie of the Year after throwing 23 touchdown passes in a sensational debut season.

Last season Houston went 10-7, its best record since going 10-6 in 2019.
