NY Rangers Forward Shows Encouraging Signs of Development

The New York Rangers are getting set for the final stretch of the season with the goal of finishing strong. While they might not be a playoff team this season, they do have a chance to play spoiler while developing some of their younger players.
It was certainly an interesting month of March for the Rangers. The franchise got off to a nice start to the month but then saw a lengthy losing streak right in the middle. However, they finished strong, winning their last three games, and they will be looking to carry that momentum into April.
While the team might have fallen way short of their expectations, there are still a lot of good things in place for the franchise going forward. When looking back at the month of March, while the results might not have been what the team wanted, they did see one of their key young players perform extremely well.
Alexis Lafreniere Finds His Groove in March
In what was an up-and-down month for the franchise, it was their talented forward who led the way for the team on the offensive end of the rink. Lafreniere led the team in points with 19 and tied Mika Zibanejad in goals with nine. Furthermore, his 10 assists placed him in a tie with Gabe Perreault for the second-most on the team last month.
What really helped the young forward have a strong month was his production on the power play. Lafreniere totaled seven points on the man-advantage with five goals and two assists.
The month of March was easily the best one of the season for the 24-year-old, and he looked like a true star, averaging over a point a game for the Blueshirts. There has always been a ton of potential for him as the former first overall pick in 2020, but he hasn’t quite lived up to it yet.
It is pretty clear that the team has gone with their young forward this year. When he plays well, the Rangers play well, but when he is off, New York has been bad. In wins, Lafreniere has totaled 33 points, compared to just 19 points this season in losses.
While making the playoffs might be out of the question for the Rangers, the performance of their young forward in April will be something important to watch. Hopefully, the month of March was a sign of things to come, and Lafreniere can finish the year with a lot of momentum.
