Bach: Sports bodies must clean up to protect credibility

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) IOC President Thomas Bach says sports organizations must do more than ever in 2016 to protect their credibility after a year of corruption and doping scandals that tarnished the Olympic movement.

In a New Year's message, Bach says sport bodies need to follow his earlier call to ''change or be changed.''

Bach says ''one just needs to look at the events over the last 12 months to realize this message is even more urgent today to safeguard the credibility of sports organizations and to protect clean athletes.''

He was referring to the corruption scandal that has enveloped FIFA and the allegations of bribery and cover-ups involving the IAAF and Russia's track and field program.

Bach says ''recent developments in some sports cast a shadow across the whole world of sport.''
