Aaron Rodgers Exits Late In First Half

Aaron Rodgers left very late in the first half of Sunday's 34-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals with a left wrist injury. He was seen visibly grimacing on video. Mason Rudolph replaced him and actually performed well in the second half. Rudolph visibly looked more mobile as the Steelers moved the ball with more noted aggression.

NFL Red Zone had one of the best angles on the play as Rodgers clearly is seen with his left wrist bending and crumpling in a way it should not. Pittsburgh is now 6-4 on the season but if Rodgers is out for any extended time, the Steelers may be in some trouble with tougher games ahead.

Rodgers went 9-for-15 with 116 yards passing and a touchdown along with one scramble for eight years. Rudolph connected on 12 of 16 passes for 127 yards and a score. Both passing touchdowns were caught by Kenneth Gainwell.

It helps again that this is his non-throwing arm. However, sometimes a quarterback has to hand off the football. Yes it's a not so minor detail. If he is in that much pain, that affects the other parts of his game.

Going Forward For Pittsburgh

There will naturally be X-Rays, MRI's, and tests to come. After all, the severity of this injury may be paramount to Pittsburgh's playoff hopes. The Steelers currently lead the AFC North by 1.5 games over the Baltimore Ravens. If the Ravens win as expected, that would set up quite an exciting seven game sprint to determine the AFC North champion.

Pittsburgh does not have the easiest of schedules. This includes playing Baltimore twice, a tussle against 7-3 Chicago, and going on the road before Christmas against the Detroit Lions. At least three of those contests will see the Steelers as underdogs. Worse, if Rodgers is truly out for any extended period, how long will it be before defenses figure out Mason Rudolph?

That is the big question. Does Rodgers soldier through the pain or does he give way to Rudolph? It will be a great subplot heading into Week 12. Fantasy football owners were expecting a huge day from Rodgers and instead they got a half day.

Chicago's defense looked a little more stout today for most of their game against Minnesota before having to save the win with a late field goal. It is no secret that Aaron Rodgers has had some of the best career games against the Bears (24-5 in the regular season). That includes the previous four encounters for Rodgers.

Again, we will keep an eye on the Rodgers injury and update everything as it happens.
