The fantasy baseball season has arrived, and managers throughout leagues are always looking for ways to improve output. Buying low can help managers bolster lineups for cheap, presenting potential difference-makers who could be currently dealing with injuries or working through inconsistent stretches. Buy-low candidates could include prospects, under-the-radar contributors, or banged-up stars facing struggles. Let’s look at three buy-low candidates throughout the majors to help bolster lineup production down the stretch of the fantasy season.

Paul Skenes - Pittsburgh Pirates (SP)

Despite a solid 3-3 start to the season for the team, Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes is off to a rough start to his 2026 campaign. Through two starts, Skenes has pitched 5.2 innings, posting an abysmal 9.53 ERA over that stretch. After letting up five runs in the Pirates’ opener, Skenes made his second start against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night and rebounded nicely, racking up five strikeouts in as many innings, earning his first win of the season on the mound. Despite a strong recent performance, Skenes will likely still come at a slight discount compared to his normal fantasy value amid an inconsistent start to the season. Managers in need of pitching assets should move for the high-end starter while his asking price remains discounted.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. - New York Yankees (2B)

The New York Yankees are off to an impressive 5-1 start to the season. Still, some of their biggest stars have faced their struggles to start the year, including the likes of Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. Judge could slot into this spot considering his inconsistent start to the season, but I feel Chisholm makes a better buy-low candidate at this point of the season. Chisholm is hitting just .174 over 23 at-bats, recording just one hit through six games. I’m confident the two-time All-Star will bounce back, but considering his struggles, he could come at a nice discount for interested fantasy managers. Those looking to shop Chisholm should avoid moving him at a lower price, taking his previous seasons of production into consideration.

Francisco Lindor - New York Mets (SS)

After eclipsing 30 home runs once again in 2025, New York Mets All-Star Francisco Lindor has gotten out to a discouraging start to the 2026 campaign. The four-time Silver Slugger winner has posted just three hits over 21 at-bats, racking up five runs with a batting average of .143 through six games. Lindor is a notoriously slow starter, but entering the season with a nagging injury has cheapened his fantasy asking price over the first week of the regular season. Lindor will likely bounce back sooner than later, but managers should still consider making a move for the star shortstop while his asking price remains decreased. Lindor’s asking price could give managers a high-end contributor without meeting his normal price tag in the trade market.
