Omarion Hampton vs. Saquon Barkley: Which RB Is Better Set Up For Fantasy Success?

Evaluating who is the better draft pick in fantasy football in 2026 between Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley and Los Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton.

Two RBs located in the same ADP for fantasy football in 2026, who both underperformed a year ago, could be breakout fantasy players in 2026. Those two players are Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley and Los Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton. Here is a breakdown of who is the better fantasy draft pick this season.

Omarion Hampton

In his rookie season in 2025, Hampton had some great moments. Unfortunately, he could not expand upon them and become a staple of the Chargers' offense, as his season ended due to injury. He only appeared in nine total games, in which he rushed for 545 yards and had five total TDs. In his time off the field, a new player emerged in Los Angeles' backfield who will have a significant role again this year: Kimani Vidal.

Vidal had 643 rushing yards and four total TDs in 2025. He had two games with over 120 rushing yards. So although the Chargers committed a second-round pick to Hampton in the 2025 NFL Draft, his fantasy ceiling could be hampered again in 2026 even if he is healthy.

Another RB could have a notable role for the Chargers in 2026. That is a free-agent inquiry from the Baltimore Ravens, Keaton Mitchell. Last season he had 341 rushing yards and one TD.

ESPN in PPR fantasy formats for the 2026 season have Hampton ranked as RB9 and the 18th best player available.

Saquon Barkley

Barkley, from being a no-doubt first-round pick a season ago, has seen his ADP drop significantly a season later based on the production he put forth in 2025. Last season, he had 1,140 rushing yards, 273 receiving yards, and nine TDs. 

That production is a massive fall from what he did in 2024, when he had 2,005 rushing yards and 15 TDs. He will have a good chance to get back closer to that level than the one he was at in 2025, with the Eagles losing one of their primary offensive weapons, AJ Brown. In filling the void of losing Brown, Barkley should see an increased workload in 2026.

First-round pick WR for the Eagles in the 2026 NFL Draft, Makai Lemon, should help make up for Brown being gone as well. He should have solid production, but not at the level of a reliable fantasy starter in 2026.

ESPN, for the 2026 season in PPR formats, has Barkley ranked as RB10 and the 19th best player available.

Final Verdict

When it comes to who fantasy managers should draft between Barkley and Hampton for the 2026 season, Barkley should be the RB to target. Hampton’s outlook in fantasy is iffy. How the Chargers' carries will be divided among him, Mitchell, and Vidal is already a red flag. With Hampton projected to be taken in the second round in 12-man fantasy leagues, the risk of taking him at his ADP is too big.

Barkley, on the other hand, has a much clearer outlook. He is undoubtedly the workhorse RB, and again, with Brown now out of the picture, there is a foreseeable path for him to get more carries and overall touches.
