Bam Adebayo Marks Hall of Fame Level-83 Points; Fantasy Basketball Sell-High?

Bam Adebayo scored 83 points with the Miami Heat on March 10, but is this going to be a recurring theme for fantasy basketball owners?

Bam Adebayo made NBA history last night against the Washington Wizards. Adebayo scored a stunning 83 total points, surpassing Kobe Bryant for 2nd-most all-time. With injuries on this Heat team, a big night was no surprise. However, a big night was not found here; this was a record-setting, speechless night of basketball for Adebayo. Does he trend higher in fantasy basketball, or is this a one-off fluke? Let us weigh the matter.

Fantasy Basketball Impact

What is most amazing here is that Adebayo hit big with over 10x of salary. However, 10x of salary is nowhere near the best value anyone will have gotten in NBA DFS this season. Many times, a player will be priced <$4,000 on a platform like Fanduel and put up 50, 60, or even 70+ points. Precious Achiuwa is the most recent example of someone to accomplish that feat.

Many NBA fans are calling this performance "ticky tack" and "fraudulent." Adebayo achieved about 40% of his points at the free-throw line. Now, is that basketball? Yes. However, this is not high-caliber basketball. Fouls galore fed the scoring performance. This will never happen again for Adebayo. If it does, then we can play the lottery.

Adebayo is averaging 20.0 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game. He is the C5 in fantasy basketball, but the man is not Nikola Jokic. It will be ill-advised to buy high on Adebayo in fantasy basketball. His true status is reflected in his C5 ranking to date. If anything, sell-high on Adebayo if you can get a haul. Recency bias is a thing.

Bam Adebayo Scores Hall of Fame Caliber, 83 Points

Adebayo raised eyebrows last night in the 4th quarter. Rumors swirled that Adebayo had 72... 74.... 77 points. Would he pass Kobe? With all the fouls, it seems likely. Sure enough, Adebayo hit 83 with less than two minutes to go, and then, he was pulled from the game.

The stat line shows that Adebayo shot 20-43 (46.5%) and 36-43 from the free-throw line. This line is not traditional, but the statistics ring true. He remains in the record books.

When Kobe scored his 81 points, he did so with 18 free throws; half of Adebayo. Which is more impressive? You tell me, but the answer seems obvious. Respect to Kobe Bryant, and also respect to Adebayo. On to the next game as the Heat press for a playoff spot amid endless team injuries.
