Cardinals' Jesus Baez, Rainiel Rodriguez Put Power on Display in Double-A

Two of the St. Louis Cardinals' top prospects provided plenty of fireworks for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals this weekend.

Catcher Rainiel Rodriguez and infielder Jesús Báez both produced multi-homer days for Springfield on Sunday. Rodriguez went 4-for-4 with two home runs, while Báez blasted three long balls in the Cardinals' 11-4 victory over the Arkansas Travelers, the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. And with Rodriguez hitting second and Báez batting third in Springfield's lineup, the two St. Louis prospects launched back-to-back homers twice on Sunday.

Additionally, Springfield's game on Saturday was postponed and resumed on Sunday. Báez also went deep in the ninth inning of that contest, so the young infielder technically belted four home runs on Sunday. This power display adds to the list of several notable Cardinals prospects who have been putting on a show at the plate since Joshua Báez's historic MLB debut last weekend.

Even before their impressive performances on Sunday, Rodriguez and Báez have both posted strong offensive numbers all season. Rodriguez, St. Louis' No. 1 prospect for 2026 on MLB Pipeline, has a .321 batting average, a .406 on-base percentage, and a .966 OPS with 21 homers, 72 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases in 100 games this year. Báez, the Cardinals' No. 15 prospect on MLB Pipeline, is hitting .267 and has an .881 OPS with 34 home runs and 91 RBIs in 97 games so far in 2026.

Both young prospects started the season with the High-A Peoria Chiefs. But Rodriguez played in just 28 games for Peoria this year before making his Double-A debut in May. The 19-year-old is hitting .324 with 17 homers and 51 RBIs through his first 72 Double-A games.

Báez appeared in 54 High-A games this year before getting bumped up to Springfield toward the end of June. In his first 43 Double-A games, the 21-year-old has a .292 batting average and a .999 OPS with 20 home runs and 50 RBIs. Simply put, the young infielder has been mashing since being promoted to Double-A.

When you factor in the other standout prospects in the Cardinals' farm system, the future is looking bright in St. Louis.
