Yankees Prospect Roderick Arias Has Been on Fire Since Double-A Promotion

New York Yankees infield prospect Roderick Arias is off to an impressive start at the plate in his first stint with the Double-A Somerset Patriots.

Arias launched his first Double-A home run on Wednesday. The 21-year-old drilled a 2-0 pitch 407 feet to right-center field with an exit velocity of 104.9 mph in Somerset's 7-4 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. The switch-hitting infielder's solo shot also notably came against one of the Blue Jays' top pitching prospects, right-hander Daniel Guerra.

Following Wednesday's performance, Arias has now recorded at least one hit in each of his first eight Double-A games. And counting his most recent contests with the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades, the young infielder is on a 12-game hitting streak. The Yankees will likely view this stretch as an encouraging sign of development from the once highly touted prospect.

The Yankees signed Arias as a 17-year-old international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in January 2022. In 2024, he was New York's No. 3 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. But now, the young infielder isn't even featured on MLB Pipeline's top-30 prospect list for the Yankees in 2026.

Last year, Arias hit .208 with seven home runs, 53 RBIs, and 34 stolen bases in 104 Single-A games. So far this season, though, the 21-year-old is seeing much more success at the plate, while also playing at the highest minor league levels of his professional career. In 101 total games this year, the switch-hitting infielder has a .277 batting average, a .360 on-base percentage, and an .812 OPS with 13 homers, 68 RBIs, and 32 stolen bases. While most of that production came in 93 High-A games, he's hitting .344 in his first eight Double-A contests.

In previous seasons, Arias mainly played shortstop. But in 2026, the Yankees prospect made 68 appearances at third base and 15 at second base with High-A Hudson Valley, compared to playing only five games at shortstop. So far in Double-A, he's been used at shortstop six times and only once each at third and second base.

With about a month remaining in Somerset's regular season, Arias will look to put the finishing touches on one of his best campaigns in the minors to date.
