Enes Kanter Freedom Says Sophie Cunningham Shot Sparked Natasha Cloud Clash

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham's made shot was the catalyst for Enes Kanter Freedom and Natasha Cloud's viral exchange on Sunday.

During an interview with Fox News on Monday morning, Enes Kanter Freedom claimed his viral exchange with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud started with a made shot from Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham.

"Sophie Cunningham shot a three, and I put my hands up to celebrate. Literally a couple possessions later, Natasha came back and starts screaming, and yelling, and said, 'She's not gonna sleep with you!'" Kanter Freedom said in the interview.

Cloud went over and began screaming at Kanter Freedom during a pause in the action when the Fever faced the Sky on Sunday. Kanter Freedom has become a polarizing figure within women's basketball because of how he has inserted himself into the league's transgender athlete debate, to the point where he declared his eligibility for the 2027 WNBA Draft as a way of making a point.

This entire crusade started in the wake of Sophie Cunningham saying she doesn't believe biological males should be allowed to participate in women's sports. Kanter Freedom says he's doing what he's doing as a way to show solidarity with Cunningham's stance, even though it feels more like a self-promotion ploy to many.

"I just got up, and then I was like, 'I'm just here to protect women. And that's all. And then [Cloud] started to yell, and then she started to use some very heavy language; she started to actually cuss. And I was very shocked [about the cussing], that there were a lot of kids, a lot of teenagers were at that game. And I cannot believe that she was just cussing and just using those F-bombs in front of all these kids," Kanter Freedom added before talking about his arguments with security when they "pushed me to leave the gym".

Sophie Cunningham Didn't Need to Be Involved

It's unfortunate that a basketball play Cunningham made had to be the catalyst for what's arguably now the most discussed thing in sports at the moment, which has nothing to do with basketball.

Cunningham has actively tried to distance herself from this story that refuses to die. And while there's a case to be made that she dug her own grave and will never truly be able to create distance from this story, the way in which she was dragged into it on Sunday isn't ideal.

As much as most true women's basketball fans want this story to end, there's surely more layers from this saga to come.
