Chelsea signs midfielder Oscar to new contract through 2019

Chelsea has signed midfielder Oscar to a new contract that lasts until 2019, the team announced on Monday.

Oscar, 23, is in his third season with the club since joining the team from Internacional in 2012. He had 11 goals last season and has four goals and two assists so far this season.

Oscar, who played for Brazil at this summer's World Cup, said he is excited to continue his career with Chelsea.

‘I am so happy because I love playing for Chelsea and living in England. I have enjoyed playing here for two years, and now I have five more, so I am very happy.’

Chelse, unbeaten on the season with 29 points, is currently first place in the Premier League. Diego Costa leads the team with 10 goals this season, and Oscar is tied with Eden Hazard for second place. Cesc Fàbregas leads the team with nine assists this season, Ramires is second with three and Oscar is tied with Nemanja Matic for third.

After defeating Liverpool on Saturday, Chelsea next plays against West Brom on Nov. 22.
