Cincinnati Bengals re-sign Rey Maualuga to two-year deal

The Cincinnati Bengals and linebacker Rey Maualuga agreed to a two-year extension worth $6.5 million, according to multiple reports. Maualuga's deal includes a $2.5 million signing bonus from the Bengals.

The USC alum was selected with the ninth pick in the second round in the 2009 NFL draft by the Bengals and has started 60 games at linebacker for the team in his career. Last season, Maualuga tallied a career-high 122 tackles while playing in all 16 games for the Bengals.

"Rey is a big, physical guy who plays with a lot of passion and energy," linebackers coach Paul Guenther said. "He knows the defense and he can play a couple of different spots, and that's going to give us some flexibility as well as some experience in our room."
