Jets sign Kellen Winslow to one-year deal

The New York Jets have signed free-agent tight end Kellen Winslow to a one-year deal, according to a NBC Sports report. Winslow, who will turn 30 in July, was brought in by the Jets last week for a tryout during mini-camp to help the Jets improve their tight end position on the roster.

Winslow will compete with current starting tight end Jeff Cumberland and converted rugby player Hayden Smith for repetitions.

The former first-round selection by the Cleveland Browns in 2004 last played with the Patriots in 2012 where he appeared in just one game and caught one pass for 12 yards.  Winslow has played for the Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Patriots over 10 seasons in the NFL and has 4,848 receiving yards with 23 touchdown receptions in his career.
