Injured Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler plans to return this week and start against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, according to a report from ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen.

His status will be determined by him not suffering any setbacks in his recovery from a groin injury.

Cutler tore a groin muscle in the first half against the Washington Redskins on Oct. 20 and was originally slated to miss a minimum of four weeks.

According to ESPN, Cutler said last week that he was going to try to return before the four-week timetable.  Cutler has thrown for 1,658 yards with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season for the Bears (4-3)

Backup Josh McCown has filled in for Cutler while he attempts to get back on the field.
