Agent: Packers tight end Jermichael Finley to undergo spinal surgery

Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley will undergo spinal fusion surgery in an attempt to resume his playing career, according to a statement released Wednesday by Finley's agent.

Finley was injured last month during a 31-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns, which resulted in Finley suffering temporary paralysis.  The team has since placed him on injured reserve, ending his season.

Finley, 26, is in the last season of a two-year, $14 million contract he signed in 2012. Finley had 25 catches for 300 yards and three touchdowns this season before being injured.

"We have collectively determined that while surgery may not be 100 percent necessary, it is a proactive measure that should alleviate future risks with regards to a similar episode or re-injury," Finley's agent Blake Baratz said in a statement. "Once surgery has been completed, Jermichael has every intention of resuming his football career, and we fully support his efforts to do so."
