The attorney for Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston said Thursday that sex between his client and a woman accusing Winston of sexual assault was consensual, reports Jennifer Portman and Jeff Burlew of the Tallahassee Democrat.

Tim Jansen, Winston's attorney, held a press conference Thursday morning to address an ESPN report that Winston's DNA matched DNA taken from the accuser.

Winston has not been charged with a crime and has not spoken publicly about the case. His attorney has denied sexual assault allegations against his client since they emerged last week.

Jansen said Winston submitted swabs for DNA testing last Thursday and that a Tallahassee Police Department investigator conducted the test.

“We are not surprised with the results of the DNA," Jansen said. "We voluntarily submitted to a DNA, the only thing we are surprised by is it was leaked out by law enforcement. The question the people should ask is, why is it being leaked? For what purpose?

..."I don’t think it’s a secret what the defense is when I tell you that we are not surprised his DNA was found. We anticipated it would be found. We never, ever said he wasn’t there."

The accuser's family released a statement Wednesday alleging that a Tallahassee police detective told the accuser that her life could “be made miserable” if she pursued charges.
