Free agent Brandon Browner suspended four games after reinstatement

Unrestricted free agent cornerback Brandon Browner must sit out the first four games of the 2014 season after being conditionally reinstated from his indefinite suspension by the NFL.

Browner, who played the last three seasons for the Seattle Seahawks, was suspended in December for violating the league's substance abuse program and threatened to sue the league if he was not reinstated.

As part of his suspension, Browner will also forfeit his first four paychecks once he is signed with a team.

"Should he comply with the terms of the Substance Abuse Policy and Program, he will be fully reinstated after serving a four-game suspension without pay at the start of the 2014 regular season and forfeiting an additional four weeks of pay," NFL and NFL Players Association said a joint statement.

Browner, 29, made the Pro Bowl in 2011 and only had 19 tackles last season while sitting out nursing a groin injury.

 "I am grateful that Commissioner Goodell and my agent were able to resolve this issue in a positive, productive manner so I can continue my career, provide for my family, and help my team win a Super Bowl," Browner said in a tweet on Tuesday.
