The Boston Red Sox have placed starting pitcher Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list with a hyperextended left knee, according to Dayn Perry of CBSSports.

Buchholz took part in his scheduled bullpen session on Wednesday and afterward the team made the decision to keep the pitcher on the bench.

The 2013 All-Star has struggled this season, giving up six runs and eight walks in just three innings of work on Monday against the Atlanta Braves.
