Seattle and the MLS office are shopping Sounders forward Eddie Johnson around the league, an MLS team executive tells SI.com.
Johnson’s contract paid him a guaranteed $156,000 this season, but it’s likely that his deal will be renegotiated to pay him significantly more next season after he scored nine goals in 2013 and 14 in 2012, in addition to becoming a regular part of the U.S. national team.
Whether Seattle can fit Johnson under its salary budget could be a tall order for next season, which is why Johnson might be on his way to a different team.
Johnson, 29, has appeared in 15 games for the U.S. this year, scoring five goals. He opened the scoring for the U.S. in its 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory against Mexico in September.
