There can be no doubt: Aron Jóhannsson is THE in-form American striker of the moment. The AZ Alkmaar man proved as much with a pair of classy finishes against Heracles today.

Jóhannsson scored his first after just 15 minutes, shrugging off a defender's challenge to make his first touch after a nice run into the box from Mattias Johansson. The American then took that first touch right out of the air and turned it into AZ's first goal of the contest:

Nothing to scoff at, but amazingly the second one was even better. Once again, the service came from the other Johansson (Also 22 years old, but Swedish and with one less "N" in his name). But it was the American Johannsson that did the rest of the work, including a beautiful pirouette to shake off two defenders and a clever fake to take the goalkeeper out of the equation.

In case you forgot, Jóhannsson also had perhaps the best chance of the night for in the United States' loss to Ukraine on Wednesday, when his volley off a corner kick was cleared off the line. The man is in form, and has the touch and movement in the box few other U.S. players can match. The man that up until seven months ago had never played a game for the U.S. is now looking more and more like a shoo-in for the World Cup roster. And maybe, just maybe, a spot in the starting lineup.
