Danny Batth will miss the final three games of the season due to a knee injury sustained against Huddersfield Town, the club have conformed.

Sunderland confirmed in a statement that Batth will undergo rehabilitation on his knee after being withdrawn in the 90th minute on Tuesday at the Stadium of Light.

The central defender has played 42 times for Sunderland this season and will return for the clubs pre-season program in June.

The 32-year-old joins Ross Stewart, Corry Evans, Elliot Embleton, Aji Alese and Jewison Bennette on the list of players who will miss the remainder of the season.

Edouard Michut, Niall Huggins and Dan Ballard are also carrying injuries at the moment but could return before the conclusion of the season.

"Sunderland AFC can confirm that Danny Batth suffered a knee injury during Tuesday’s draw with Huddersfield Town," a statement read.

"The centre-back will miss the remainder of the campaign after featuring 42 times in all competitions this season.

"Following a period of rehabilitation during the summer, Batth will return for the Club’s 2023-24 pre-season preparations in June.

"An incredible year – you’ll be back stronger, Danny!"

Batth's injury leaves Sunderland light at centre back with utility man Luke O'Nien and January signing Joe Anderson Sunderland's only current options as natural centre backs.
