Sunderland recently confirmed that Edouard Michut would be returning to parent club PSG following his loan spell on Wearside.

Michut, 20, joined Sunderland on a season-long loan last summer. He started slowly but gradually worked his way into Tony Mowbray's first-team, eventually going on to play 25 times in Championship fixtures, scoring once.

The Frenchman impressed fans on the whole. He's a very technically-gifted player and given a few more seasons, he could've become a really top player for the Black Cats.

And it was long reported that Sunderland had an option to buy Michut from PSG once his loan spell had ended. There was a bit of a wait after Sunderland crashed out of the play-offs, before the club announced that Michut would be returning to PSG.

On the surface it seemed like it was Sunderland who decided against signing Michut permanently. But speaking to French outlet L'Equipe, Michut has revealed that it was he who decided against signing for Sunderland permanently.

He's quoted as saying: “The club offered me to stay.

"It was my decision to not stay at Sunderland. We weren’t in agreement on certain contractual points. There were also a few things on the style of play that didn’t suit me.

“In this style, I was at 50-60 maximum. How I play, I need to touch the ball. I thank the president for understanding my choice of not wanting to stay.”

Michut may well be on a decent contract at PSG - perhaps Sunderland simply couldn't match his demands.

But the playing style comment is an interesting one. Sunderland play a very attacking and very exciting style of play under Mowbray and so what aspects of the club's playing style that doesn't suit Michut remains to be seen.

Michut though won't be returning to the club and so fans won't linger on this one for too long.

Michut certainly seems to have a bright career ahead of him and what this summer might hold for him remains to be seen.
