Former Sunderland star facing retirement fears after another injury blow

Former Sunderland star Aiden McGeady may be facing retirement after he suffered another injury blow.
The winger reunited with former Sunderland boss Lee Johnson at Hibernian last summer, signing a one-year deal with the SPL club.
However, it has not gone all that well, with the injuries that blighted his final months at Sunderland following him north of the border.
He had to wait until mid-December to make his debut, and he has only made six starts since.
McGeady, 36, pulled up during Hibs’ win over Kilmarnock last week and had to be replaced in the first half, and it may turn out to be the last game in his career – unless Hibs decide to back him with a contract extension.
“Geads will be seeing another specialist shortly and that will determine whether or not he needs surgery,” Johnson confirmed.
“He will be out for a minimum of four months, and potentially six months. It’s really disappointing for us and really disappointing for him, but it’s our job to nurse him back to full fitness.”
Aiden McGeady was a superb servant to Sunderland, providing a rare beacon of quality and genuine loyalty during some genuinely dark days for the club.
He left after five years and 150 appearances for the club, during which he scored 36 goals and provided another 35 assists.
