Key summer dates for Sunderland fans: Deadline day, fixture release + more

Sunderland will be hoping for another active summer transfer window this year, so that the Black Cats can challenge for promotion once again.
Sunderland's 2022/23 season was one to remember. They finished in 6th place of the table and qualified for the play-offs, before being knocked out at the hands of eventual winners Luton Town.
Still, it was a fantastic season for Tony Mowbray's side and many are expecting them to be dark horses in the race for top six again next season.
But first is the summer, and here are all the key dates that Sunderland fans need to know...
When does the summer transfer window open and close?
The domestic summer transfer window opens up on June 14th, but the international transfer window opens on July 1st and so Sunderland wouldn't be able to officially sign players from overseas until then.
The transfer window in England then closes at 11pm on Friday September 1st.
What friendlies do Sunderland have arranged so far?
Sunderland's pre-season begins with a couple of friendly fixtures against local rivals South Shields and Gateshead, both taking place on July 8th.
The Black Cats then head on their US tour with friendlies against San Antonio (July 16th), New Mexico United (July 20th), and North Carolina (July 22nd).
When are Sunderland's Championship fixtures released?
As per the EFL's official website, all 72 Football League teams will release their league fixtures for the 2023/24 season at 9am on Thursday June 22nd.
When does the 2023/24 season start?
Round One of the 2023/24 campaign takes places across the weekend of August 4th, and the first round of the Carabao Cup is scheduled for the week commending August 7th.
