Luton fan hit with 'lengthy ban' for attack on Sunderland player in play-offs battle

A Luton Town fan who punched Sunderland star Amad Diallo in the back at Kenilworth Road has been given a ‘lengthy ban’ by the club.
The second leg of the Championships play-off semi-final was played in a hostile atmosphere at Kenilworth Road, with the on-loan Manchester United man Amad a particular target for the home supporters.
He was unpopular due to a belief that he dived to win a penalty in the league game between the two teams earlier in the season, but things got physical when Amad went to try and retrieve a ball to take a throw-in in the first half.
However, Luton have acted quickly to deal with the matter, with the supporter now facing a ban as well as a potential police charge.
“Luton Town is aware of an incident involving a home spectator and a Sunderland player during last night’s Championship play-off semi-final at Kenilworth Road,” the Hatters said in a statement.
“A lengthy Club ban will be immediately issued and the incident is now also subject to a police investigation.

“Luton Town wishes to clarify that any such supporter behaviour is not acceptable in any way and will take swift, appropriate action to ensure that similar actions do not happen again.
“No further comment will be made by the Club at this time.”
Luton won the tie and will now face Coventry at Wembley for a place in the Premier League.
