PL club making checks on Sunderland favourite ahead of potential winter swoop

Jack Clarke has interest from this Premier League side ahead of January.

Brentford are making checks on Sunderland man Jack Clarke ahead of the January transfer window, reports Alan Nixon.

Clarke was the subject of Premier League interest in the summer, with Burnley making an effort to sign the 22-year-old.

It came after his impressive 2022/23 Championship campaign but Sunderland knocked back multiple Burnley approaches, with Sunderland Nation exclusively revealing that the Black Cats would not be selling Clarke.

And he remains at the Stadium of Light where he's made an impressive start to the new Championship season, having scored seven goals in nine league outings so far.

But Nixon revealed on his Patreon account yesterday that Brentford are making checks on the winger, ahead of a potential £15million swoop in the upcoming January transfer window.

Nixon adds that 'Sunderland hope to win promotion but a large amount of cash would give them something to think about'.

Clarke heading out the exit door?

This is a very tough one for the Black Cats to weigh up.

On the one hand, Clarke is a key player, who's under contract for a while longer, and who's also getting better and better.

But at the same time, earning promotion from the Championship and eventually staying in the Premier League requires a degree of planning and structure, and player sales is part of that.

If the Black Cats receive a suitable bid then expect the club to consider it at the least.

It might not be what Tony Mowbray wants, but he's experienced enough to know how it goes in the second tier.
