Report reveals Sunderland beat PL side and Championship rivals to signing of Nectarios Triantis

Sunderland announced the signing of Central Coast Mariners centre-back Nectarios Triantis yesterday.
The Australian U23s centre-back is set to sign for Sunderland this summer, becoming the Black Cats' first signing of what could be another busy pre-season.
It's a signing that's come about somewhat quickly - at least compared to adjacent the signing of Birmingham City's Jobe Bellingham.
And it's since been revealed that Sunderland fended off some stiff competition for the signing of Triantis.
Australian outlet FTBL report that the Black Cats beat the likes of Crystal Palace, Stoke City, and teams from Denmark, Greece, and Norway to the signing of the Mariners man.
And speaking to the same outlet, Triantis' agent - a former Australian player himself, Buddy Farah - said of Triantis' move to the Stadium of Light:
"There is no doubt that Nectar has a big future ahead, and I’m sure the name Triantis will be spoken about for years to come.
“He deserves this move and despite a number of other serious options this ticked a lot of boxes.
“Sunderland has been very professional in the process and have a very good head coach in Tony Mowbray who ironically played as a centre back.”
Triantis is another young and promising player added to the Black Cats' ranks. And seeing how quickly players like Pierre Ekwah and Aji Alese have become key players for Sunderland, Triantis may be expecting to play a big role next season.
It'll no doubt take time for him to adapt to the England game, but this is a rally exciting capture for Mowbray's men, who will want to be in and around the top six once again next season.
The summer transfer window officially opens for business next Tuesday and it looks like finalising the capture of Bellingham is next on Sunderland's agenda.
