Rotherham boss Matt Taylor has described Sunderland as ‘a fantastic team’ ahead of Championship clash between the two sides.

Sunderland will travel to Rotherham on Tuesday night as they attempt to cement their position in the Championship play-off positions.

Rotherham actually finished above Sunderland in League One last year and thrashed the Black Cats 5-1 at home. Taylor wasn’t in charge for that one, and he wasn’t in the dugout for Sunderland’s 3-0 win at the Stadium of Light earlier this season either.

He is certainly expecting a tough game though given the attacking quality Tony Mowbray’s side possess.

“They’re a fantastic side,” Taylor said about Sunderland. “They’ve invested well and recruited well and got some good players for the level.

“They have a couple of loans in there as well who have certainly improved them.

Rotherham have won just one of their last twelve Championship matches and come into the game against Sunderland on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Coventry.

They played well in that one, though, especially in the first half, and Taylor is hoping his side can be on their game again when Sunderland arrive and New York Stadium.

“We’re at home and we have to make the running. We have to put them under pressure.

“We know their style and what they’ll want to do when they come to our pitch. We have to make it ‘our pitch’ like we did for the first half on Saturday.”
