Sunderland have seen a €4million bid for Croatian striker Matija Frigan rejected, reports coming out of Croatia have revealed.

Sunderland are poaching players from across the globe. Last summer they brought in Jewison Bennette from South America and this summer they've signed the likes of Luis Hemir, Nectarios Triantis, and Jenson Seelt from overseas.

It marks an exciting time in Sunderland's progress and the latest name being linked with a move to the Stadium of Light ahead of the 2023/24 campaign is Frigan.

The 20-year-old striker currently plays for Croatian outfit HNK Rijeka and the Croatian U21 side. His side finished 4th in the league and Frigan ended the campaign as the second highest scorer in the league, with 13 goals in 27 league appearances.

It was just his third year playing senior football but already it looks like Frigan is making a name for himself in his home country, and his form has clearly captured the attention of Sunderland.

Frigan to Sunderland...

Frigan fits the bill for Sunderland - he's young and promising, and if he was to be playing for an English team for example, he might cost a lot more than €4million.

That's arguably why teams look overseas for new players - to get better deals. but Sunderland will have to put more money on the table for Frigan and now that the news is out, it could prompt other teams to take a look at the youngster.

Sunderland could do with a couple more strikers this summer. Hemir looks like a good addition but he and Ross Stewart are Tony Mowbray's only no.9 options as things stand, and Stewart seems to be facing an uncertain future.

The Black Cats might need a player sale to make this one happen, but it's another exciting link for the club.
