Sunderland will continue to monitor PL man's situation amid uncertainty, report reveals

If there's one thing that will be on Sunderland's shopping list this summer, it's strikers.
Last season was a memorable one for many reasons. Tony Mowbray coming in, achieving a top six finish on the final day of the season, and much, much more in between.
One aspect of the season though was injuries. Sunderland were plagued throughout and especially so in their attacking department, with Ross Stewart having spent much of the season on the sidelines.
Joe Gelhardt arrived in January and softened the blow, but Mowbray was still relying on his midfielders and wide players to score the goals that eventually steered Sunderland to the play-offs.
But it could've been more. Sunderland had Ellis Simms on loan from Everton for the first part of the season and he flourished, scoring seven goals in 17 Championship outings for the Black Cats before being recalled by Everton.
He'd play a bit part role for his parent club, featuring 11 times in the Premier League. But earlier this month it was suggested that Simms could be on the move this summer, either temporarily or permanently depending on Everton's summer business.
And The Northern Echo are now saying that Sunderland will continue to monitor his situation at Goodison Park as we move into the summer transfer window.
Simms to Sunderland?
If Simms is available then he'd be a great summer signing for Sunderland.
Mowbray desperately needs strikers and Simms proved himself in a Sunderland shirt last season, and if Everton sign a couple of strikers this summer then he could be available for a decent price.
He's still only 22 as well, so he fits Sunderland's recruitment strategy, making him a pretty perfect potential summer signing.
The summer transfer window opens up on Wednesday.
