Sunderland winger suspended 'with immediate effect' due to criminal charges

Sunderland have suspended Jack Diamond with immediate effect and terminated his loan at Lincoln City due to criminal charges.
The winger has enjoyed a good season in League One, becoming a key player in the Imps’ line-up.
However, his future will now be clouded in uncertainty due to the serious criminal charges. The club have not specified what they are, but BBC Radio Newcastle have reported the charges as one of rape and one of sexual assault.
“Sunderland AFC has been notified that criminal charges have been brought against Jack Diamond by the Crown Prosecution Service,” a club statement revealed.
“The player has been suspended with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the judicial process, and his loan agreement at Lincoln City Football Club has also been terminated.

“As this matter is subject to a legal process, the club will not be making any further statement at this time.”
Diamond has played 31 times for Lincoln this season, scoring six goals and contributing a further four assists.
