Tony Mowbray urges Sunderland supporters to 'keep believing' despite mini-slump

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray has asked supporters to keep the faith as his young squad work their way through a tough patch.
The Black Cats have endured a tough week, picking up just one point from three games and slipping out of the Championship play-off places.
It is a rare deflating run in what has been a brilliant 12 months for Sunderland, and it is not without reason given the recent long-term injuries to captain Corry Evans and top scorer Ross Stewart.
That is bringing obvious challenges to the squad, as the hectic schedule has, but Mowbray wants everyone to keep their chins up and keep believing in the talented young squad the club has assembled.
“The team is so down in the dressing room but I’ve tried to give them positives," Mowbray said after the 2-1 defeat to Coventry.
"Listen, there was lots of possession, lots of half chances and Patrick missed an amazing opportunity to score in the six yard box.
"So it wasn’t necessarily a game I looked at and thought ‘they were better than us today and we lost a game to a better team.' That’s not the case.
"So let’s keep going, let’s keep working on them. I hope the supporters keep believing in the team and see the positives that the team bring how they can control games but we do need to be able to put the ball in the opposition net.”
