FC Cincinnati head coach Ron Jans forced out after an investigation by Major League Soccer. The findings included a racial slur as well as other troubling comments.

Jans resigned after the team notified him he had been suspended pending the investigation.

The pattern of conduct of the former FC Cincinnati coach “created an untenable and unfair working environment for our players,” according to Bob Foose, executive director of the players’ association.

Yoann Damet was named interim head coach while the team conducts a search.

During its brief time in MLS, Cincinnati has been through two head coaches.

The club learned of the investigation and suspended Jans while players were questioned privately about his conduct. Jans admitted using a racial slur, but the player interviews revealed other incidents as well.

The players' association criticized the initial attempt by the club to downplay Jans' conduct. Cincinnati president Jeff Berding said the club acted swiftly once the allegations came to light.

“There’s no place for racial intolerance, insensitivity,” Berding said. “We must speak with a strong voice against that.”
