Caitlin Clark Is on Pace to Do Something No WNBA Player Has Ever Done

Much of the discourse surrounding the WNBA right now has very little to do with basketball. This is unfortunate, especially considering that the league is arguably at its peak in terms of talent right now.

Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark certainly seems to be at her peak, as she continues to dominate the WNBA on offense.

As if the eye test wasn't already enough to show how great a season Clark is having, there are also statistics to further prove it. One example was what the ESPN Insights (aka analytics) department posted on social media Tuesday morning, which was captioned, "Caitlin Clark ranks in the top 3 in PPG and APG this season and is on pace to be the first player in WNBA history to average 20 PPG and 8 APG in a season 💪

"According to ESPN Analytics, the Fever have a 56% chance to beat the Liberty in tonight's matchup 👀".

Clark is currently averaging 21.6 points and 8.1 assists per game. What's perhaps most impressive about this is that she's actually averaging her lowest single-season assists per game total in her career at this point, as she produced 8.4 assists per game in her rookie campaign and 8.8 assists per game in her (injury-shortened) 2025 season.

But she's having her best campaign when it comes to shooting efficiency. Her 44.2% field goal percentage and her 35.5% three-point percentage are the best of her career to this point.

She has already set many WNBA records. And if she can continue this pace and become the first WNBA player to average at least 20 points and eight assists in a season, that would immediately become one of her more impressive accomplishments, since it shows she can sustain her greatness throughout an entire 44-game campaign.

Can Caitlin Clark's Great Campaign Produce a Faver Win Against the Liberty?

It's also interesting to see that Indiana has a 55% chance of beating New York on Tuesday night, according to that ESPN graphic.

It is a home game for the Fever, and the home team has won this matchup in the two previous times the Fever and the Liberty have faced each other this season.

But New York is playing great basketball of late, having won their past four contests and seven of their last eight games overall.

The Fever are currently .5 games ahead of the Liberty in the WNBA standings, which means this matchup will impact seeding. That's another reason why the Fever will need Clark to be in form Tuesday night.
