The Gamecocks won the SEC and finished 31–1. They fell only to UConn during the regular season. Notre Dame (31–1), the ACC champion, also dropped its only game of the season to the Huskies.

The Big 12 champion Baylor Bears (33–1) rounded out the top four seeds after taking the conference title from Texas last week.
