Texas vs. Alabama Picks with FanDuel

In arguably the biggest game of College Football’s Week 2, the Texas Longhorns will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. In last year’s matchup, Texas nearly pulled off the shocking upset before Alabama kicked a field goal to take the lead with 10 seconds left.

In this matchup, we will have Texas vs. Alabama picks that can be used at FanDuel Sportsbook to earn a $300 sign-up bonus.

Prediction for CFB This Week: Texas Longhorns vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

This game is a highly-anticipated matchup between two national championship contenders. In last year’s game, Texas nearly beat Alabama as a 20-point underdog, so the Longhorns will surely be confident heading into this game. Texas got off to a slow start against Rice in Week 1, as the Longhorns only led by a score of 16-3 at halftime despite being a 35.5-point favorite, but eventually went on to win 37-10.

Alabama had no issues with Middle Tennessee, winning by a final score of 56-7 and easily covering the spread. The biggest takeaway from the Crimson Tide win was the dual-threat play of quarterback Jalen Milroe. Milroe was an extremely efficient 13-for-18 passing and tossed three touchdowns, while also running for nearly 50 yards and two additional touchdowns. The Texas defense will provide more of a challenge, but Milroe’s play was certainly a positive development for Alabama.

CFB Picks and Texas vs. Alabama Best Bets for Saturday Featuring Alabama -7

There is an obvious parallel between this matchup and the game last year between Texas and Alabama, but a lot has changed since then. Each team had an offensive player drafted in the top ten of the 2023 NFL Draft, with Alabama’s Bryce Young going first overall and Texas’ Bijan Robinson being drafted eighth overall.  Interestingly, neither player had their best game in last year’s matchup. The one takeaway from the 2022 box score is that Alabama had 15 penalties for 100 yards in that game, which certainly allowed Texas to keep things close. Surely, Nick Saban is reminding his team to be disciplined during practice this week.

From a matchup perspective, Alabama’s defense matches up very well with Texas, particularly in the secondary. Texas has among the best receiving corps in the nation, but the strength of the Alabama defense may be its pass coverage, assuming everyone's healthy. Kool-Aid McKinstry was named as an All-American by several outlets last season, and he is joined by Malachi Moore, a preseason All-SEC selection, Jaylen Key, an honorable-mention All-Conference USA player, and Caleb Downs, a top-ten recruit in the country. If they can hold down the talented receivers for Texas, it could allow the Crimson Tide to obtain the necessary margin of victory. Both Moore and Keys left Alabama's game last week with injuries, so check with BamaCentral for the latest injury news.

Alabama Football Injury Update

As with any college football game, you’ll want to monitor the injury report for teams prior to placing bets on a game. Alabama has a few injuries to monitor that would be influential to our Texas vs. Alabama picks. Our experts think Alabama has a great chance to cover the spread against Texas because of the strength of its secondary. However, there are two Alabama defensive backs who left the last game due to injury.

Malachi Moore and Jaylen Key both started against Middle Tennessee but did not finish the game. At the time of writing, both are considered day-to-day, which likely means that they will be able to suit up against Texas. It’s likely that both players were held out for precautionary reasons, as Alabama had a big lead in the game. If we were to find out that one or both are unlikely to play, our Texas vs. Alabama picks would potentially need to be reconsidered. Again, check with BamaCentral for the latest injury news.
