Notre Dame Star Joe Alt Remains A Top 10 Pick In Latest Mel Kiper Jr. Mock Draft
Notre Dame will continue its dominant offensive line tradition rolling in the upcoming NFL Draft as former Irish star Joe Alt is considered arguably the top tackle in the draft. ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. released his latest mock draft and he has Alt as the top tackle taken.
Kiper has the Tennessee Titans selecting Alt with the No. 7 overall pick. In fact, Alt is the first non-quarterback or wide receiver taken in the draft.
"Nothing over the past month has changed my mind about the Titans taking the draft's top offensive tackle and starting him on the left side as a rookie. In fact, after they released Andre Dillard last week, the need is even more severe. Alt started 33 games at left tackle in college and surrendered just six sacks, four of which came when he was a true freshman in 2021. He would upgrade an O-line that ranked 31st in sack rate per dropback (11.1%) last season." - Kiper
Offensive line is clearly a major need for the Titans, which is why they are a consistent projection for Alt across various mock drafts. In fact, it's a surprise when I see a mock draft that doesn't have Alt going to them in the No. 7 spot.
Alt was arguably the best tackle in college football over the last two seasons. In 2022, Alt was named a first team All-American by ESPN, Associated Press, Pro Football Focus and CBS Sports. In 2023, the true junior was named a unanimous All-American. To be a unanimous All-American player must be on the first-team list for the AFCA, the Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News, the Associated Press and Walter Camp.
Tennessee has not drafted a Notre Dame player since it selected former Irish linebacker Rocky Boiman back in 2002. Prior to that they had not taken a former Notre Dame player since 1990 (the late Jeff Alm), back when they were still the Houston Oilers.
