QB Husan Longstreet Places Oregon in Top Group Ahead of Commitment

One of the top uncommitted signal callers in the 2025 class isn't far from a decision and Oregon is a contender.

2025 Corona (Calif.) Centennial quarterback Husan Longstreet is closing in on a decision.

On Monday, the Southern California passer narrowed his top schools to eight, and Oregon made the cut according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Oregon is contending with fellow finalists UCLA, Auburn, Louisville, Michigan, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Miami. The 6-foot, 190-pound quarterback will make his commitment in just over a month, with a date locked in for April 14.

He's also reportedly lined up visits to Auburn (March 22) and Texas A&M (March 29) for later this month and additional trips appear to be in the works, including one to Eugene, according to Greg Biggins of 247Sports

Longstreet is ranked the No. 94 player nationally, the No. 9 quarterback and the No. 9 recruit in California according to the 247Sports Composite.

Offensive coordinator Will Stein and the Ducks already have a commitment from San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln quarterback and Oregon legacy Akili Smith Jr., but with how much movement there is at the position every year, it's smart for the coaching staff to keep tabs on top players.

Dan Lanning brought in a pair of quarterbacks from the transfer portal this offseason in Dillon Gabriel (Oklahoma) and Dante Moore (UCLA) while also signing one of the more intriguing quarterbacks in the 2024 cycle in dual-threat talent Luke Moga from Phoenix.

Torres' Take

Texas A&M seems to be a school I'm hearing is linked to Longstreet, but there's still a decent amount of time before he makes his decision.

I don't think quarterback is a pressing need for Oregon this cycle, but even so I wouldn't be surprised to see Longstreet pop up in Eugene for a visit during spring football practices before making his commitment.

The Ducks haven't had a great track record of recruiting and landing top quarterbacks from Southern California in recent cycles (C.J. Stroud, Jayden Daniels, Bryce Young), however a commitment from Smith looks like they could be trending in the right direction moving forward.

Longstreet has a cannon for an arm, but I think Smith has more upside as a passer and an athlete between the two. He stands 6'5" and is a sneaky good runner for his size.

Oregon's 2025 recruiting class

  • 4* WR Adrian Wilson (Pflugerville, TX)
  • 4* QB Akili Smith Jr. (San Diego, CA)
  • 3* EDGE Matthew Johnson (Concord, Calif.)
  • 3* OL Chavez "Sandman" Thompson (Melbourne, FL)
