2024 NFL Mock Draft: Multiple Teams Trade Up for Top QBs

See which teams made bold moves up the board to land new franchise passers in this updated first-round projection for the 2024 NFL Draft.

We're still more than a month away from the 2024 NFL Draft, but that's still plenty of time for narratives to change surrounding team needs and prospect stock.

One thing that will always drive the draft conversation is a talented quarterback prospect, and in the latest 2024 NFL mock draft from CBS Sports, two teams made make big trade-ups to land their new franchise passers.

The first big move comes from the Minnesota Vikings, who just secured an extra first-round pick in this year's draft via trade from the Houston Texans, giving them the resources to jump up the board. In this projection, they swap spots with the Los Angeles Chargers at the No. 5 pick, which they use on Michigan's J.J. McCarthy.

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

Michael Penix Jr. could be a trade-up target in the latter part of the first round.

At the end of the first round, the Las Vegas Raiders make a splash of their own, trading up from their second-round selection with the San Francisco 49ers for the No. 31 pick, targeting Washington's Michael Penix Jr. as their new signal-caller.

That would make it five quarterbacks in this year's first round, but would also leave Oregon's Bo Nix waiting until Day 2 to hear his name called.

Outside of the quarterbacks, one of the more intriguing picks in this projection comes at No. 21, where the Miami Dolphins land the clear-cut top tight end prospect in the class, Georgia's Brock Bowers. Widely regarded as a top-10 talent in this class, the lack of positional value could keep Bowers on the board later than expected, and slotting him into Miami's explosive offense would be downright unfair.
