Georgia dismisses safety Josh Harvey-Clemons for violation of team rules

Georgia safety Josh Harvey-Clemons,, after having been suspended for the Gator Bowl and for a reported three games in 2014 for a violation of team rules, was dismissed from the team on Tuesday. The Bulldogs defense was messy in 2013, when Harvey-Clemons had 66 tackles, including 5.5 for loss, and one interception.

Georgia initially suspended Harvey-Clemons in January. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Since then, however, several persons familiar with the situation have told the AJC that Harvey-Clemons had in fact violated UGA’s marijuana-use policy for a second time and therefore had been issued a four-game suspension, as per the athletic association’s student-athlete disciplinary guidelines. Those guidelines call for the offending student-athlete to be suspended for “not less than 30 percent of the season” for a second offense of the marijuana-use policy. In football, that comes to four games, one of which Harvey-Clemons has already served.

It's possible that new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt -- who is replacing the departed Todd Grantham -- saw fit to jettison Harvey-Clemons as a repeat offender while he continues to assess his personnel. The 6-foot-5 safety was a Rivals five-star recruit in 2012.
