Missouri, football coach Gary Pinkel agree to extension through 2021
The University of Missouri and head football coach Gary Pinkel have agreed to a contract extension that runs through 2021, the school announced Friday.
With 113 wins in 14 seasons at the helm, Pinkel is Mizzou's all-time winningest head coach. The new deal includes an increase in his guaranteed salary to $4.02 million, up from his previous $3.2 million.
Currently the 25th-winningest head coach in NCAA FCS history and fourth among active coaches with 186 career victories, Pinkel has led the Tigers to five conference divisional titles since 2007, tied for most in the nation in that span. Mizzou has won back-to-back SEC East titles and was named SEC Coach of the Year by his peers last season.
“I want to thank Chancellor Loftin and Mike Alden for their continuing commitment and belief in what we are doing at Mizzou,” said Pinkel in a statement. “We’ve shared some pretty amazing success together over the years, and as competitors we all know there’s more to be done. I’ve never been more excited to be here and to pursue excellence with such a great leadership team, and such an amazing and dedicated coaching staff. We’re excited to partner with Mack Rhoades going forward and continue to build a program that Mizzou fans will be proud of."
