Notre Dame TE Durham Smythe (knee, shoulder) out for season
Notre Dame tight end Durham Smythe is out for the season with shoulder and knee injuries, head coach Brian Kelly announced Monday.
Smythe, a junior, injured his shoulder in the Irish's season opener against Texas, but played through the injury against Virginia on Saturday. During the fourth quarter against the Cavaliers, Smythe sustained a torn MCL in his right knee.
According to the report, Smythe underwent two successful surgeries to repair the injuries Tuesday morning. He will likely return to the field for spring practice.
Along with Smythe, Notre Dame has lost quarterback Malik Zaire, running back Tarean Folston, defensive lineman Jarron Jones and cornerback Shaun Crawford through two games this season.

To fill in for Smythe, the Irish will look to Tyler Luatua, Nic Weishar and Alize Jones.
Smythe has the only two catches from the Irish's tight end position this season.
Notre Dame, ranked No. 8 in this week's AP poll, is 2–0 ahead of a Week 3 matchup against No. 14 Georgia Tech.
