Arizona State's Ray Brown hired as Abilene Christian CBs coach
Arizona State defensive graduate assistant Ray Brown is the new cornerbacks coach for Abilene Christian coach Ken Collums, according to a source.
This past season was the savvy Brown’s second in his position at Arizona State. He assisted with a secondary that helped the Sun Devils finish 23rd in the FBS in interceptions (15).
Arizona State was 29th nationally in interceptions (14) during Brown’s first season. That year, the Sun Devils had a 10–3 record and won the Sun Bowl.
Prior to Brown’s tenure in Tempe, he was a defensive graduate assistant at Washington State in 2013. During that campaign, he tutored All-America safety Deone Bucannon, a first-round pick in the ’14 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals.
That was after the 32-year-old Brown spent 2012 as the special teams coordinator and running backs coach at Oklahoma Baptist. He was the running backs coach at his alma mater, East Central University, from ’10–11. An Oklahoma City native, Brown was a cornerback for East Central from ’02–06.
Abilene Christian went 3–8 this past season under Collums. He has a 22–23 record in his four years in charge of the program.
